I’m Mary.

I am a Maine-rooted public historian and writer based in the Washington, D.C. area. My work ranges from the military and economic history of the Penobscot River to professional genealogy, manuscript editing, disability advocacy, and independent software projects.

Both sides of my family have called Maine home since the 1700s. My family history there includes Mi’kmaq ancestry as well as Irish immigrants who came through Boston and made their homes in Maine.
